Horse and Musket

Still no tangible progress, but another online board: Top down horse and musket. This uses a square control thingy to change facing and label units. There's a choice of infantry and grenadier units; a single stand or two half stands so you can represent line, column and square:

  1. Thank you very much for makig this available - apart from being fun to play in its own right, it has reawoken my dormant enthusiasm for the Portable Wargame and inspired me to actually buy some figures and create some armies &c.

    1. My pleasure. I've been trying to inspire myself to do the same thing!

    2. Pete, how do I use the red thingy to rotate units? I can't figure it out - blame my lack of computer savvy!

    3. If the control-thingy is working as it's supposed to then clicking on one of the four arrows should allow you to change a unit's facing and clicking in the middle should allow you to edit the unit's label.

    4. Pete,
I realised that much, but if I move a unit onto the grid and then click on one of the arrows - nothing happens!
I must be missing some step in the process, but can't figure out what, which is somewhat frustrating...
Perhaps the red thingy isn't working?

    5. I'm sorry you are having problems, excuse me posting the too obvious instructions. Please let me know which Web browser you are using and which version. I've tested the page with IE, Firefox, Chrome and Opera on Vista and Windows 7, but I might have missed a combination where there's a problem. I make the pages using Firefox and then do quick check using the other browsers, so Firefox is your best bet.

  2. Pete,
Thanks for your patience - problem solved! - I had not realised, until I read your more recent post, that one had to double click on the unit to activate the red directional icon . Must have missed that crucial detail somewhere...
But no I can get into action! Thank you for all your work in making these wonderful resources available!

It occurs to me, that one could use your system, coupled with two player displays, to run a 'closed', umpire controlled game with fog of war, hidden movement &c; players simply giving orders and awaiting verbal feedback and updating of their displays at end of each turn. I must work on this...

    Regards.

    1. Arthur,
I'm glad you've worked it out. Looking above I realise I forgot to mention the double-click to summon the control-thingy in my first answer to you. I'm glad I accidentally did so in my latest post! Please let me know if you would like me to add some dummy/unknown unit counters to allow your hidden movement game to work.

      Cheers,
      Pete.

  3. Pete,
That would certainly be useful. But I was really thinking along the lines of using your game as a computerised umpire system, and updating actual physical player displays as appropriate - something I'll discuss with Bob.

    Arthur
